DIY Aloe Vera, Honey and Yogurt Hair Mask

DIY Aloe Vera, Honey and Yogurt Hair Mask

Aloe Vera is a succulent plant that grows in sunny climates all over the world. It is said to have been used for thousands of years as a natural cosmetic and myriad remedy.

The Benefits of Aloe Vera for Haircare:

Aloe is best known for the relief of sunburned skin and other surface wounds, but due to its moisturizing properties and nourishing vitamins, Aloe Vera has become wildly popular as a treatment for dry hair and skin. Research has shown that it may help with dandruff relief, and that the plant compounds may also help promote healthier hair.

Here is a look at some benefits of Aloe Vera for healthier hair, and how you can make one of our favorite DIY haircare recipes: The Aloe Vera, Honey and Yogurt Hair Mask.

Aloe Vera is great for men and women with all hair types, and this mask is great for dry or damaged hair. If you have had a few treatments, vitamins C, E, B-12, enzymes and folic acid should help nourish and strengthen your hair.

How to Make an Aloe Vera, Honey and Yogurt Hair Mask:

A hair mask is a little different from your standard store-bought conditioner. Masks are a leave-in treatment that can have a host of additional benefits.

Because hair masks often contain more oils and conditioning agents than a typical conditioner, and you leave them in your hair for longer, they often promote more intense healing and repair than your usual hair care routine.

There are numerous hair masks that can be purchased at the store, but it’s so fun and easy to make your own. Here are the steps to make your own DIY Aloe Vera, Honey and Yogurt Hair Mask:

DIY Aloe Vera, Honey and Yogurt Hair Mask
  • Gather your ingredients: 2 tbsp. of Aloe Vera Gel, 2 tbsp. of Honey and 2 tbsp. of Plain Yogurt.
  • Stir the ingredients together until they form a smooth, blended paste.
  • Be sure to protect your clothing.
  • Apply the mask to your hair with your fingers. Dividing long hair into sections can help make the application easier.
  • Begin the application at mid-shaft and work toward the ends. Once you’ve worked the mask into the ends of your hair, you can go back and gently apply it to your scalp.
  • When you’ve finished applying the mask, comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb. This helps spread the mask through your hair evenly.
  • Cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap. Then wrap a towel around your head. This helps protect the mask from dripping, but it also helps keep your hair from drying out. Warming up the towel may help the mask have even more of a moisturizing effect.
  • Leave the mask on for 30 minutes. You can leave it on for up to an hour for extra conditioning.
  • Rinse the mask out of your hair. You’ll probably want to wash your hair to make sure you get the mask out completely, since aloe vera gel can leave a filmy residue in your hair.
  • You can replace your normal conditioner with this mask as often as once a week to help boost your hair health.
