Choosing Aloe Vera Gel for Sensitive Skin

Choosing Aloe Vera Gel for Sensitive Skin

If your skin runs sensitive, you already know the routine: read every label twice, introduce new products slowly, and brace a little each time. Aloe vera gel is a popular choice for sensitive skin — but not all aloe gels are built the same. Here's what to look for.

Start with the ingredient list — and its length. A long list of ingredients means more potential variables for reactive skin. One of the reasons we kept NaturSense Aloe Vera Gel to just five ingredients is that a shorter list is simply easier to evaluate. Ours is 99% aloe, with four supporting ingredients: xanthan gum, citric acid, ascorbic acid, and potassium sorbate. You can read the whole formula in one breath.

Look for what's not there. For sensitive skin, the absence of certain things matters as much as what's present. Our gel is free of added fragrance, essential oils, and alcohol — three of the more common sources of sensitivity in skincare.

Understand the role of each ingredient. A short list also means you can actually know what each ingredient does. The aloe hydrates and soothes; xanthan gum gives the gel its texture; citric and ascorbic acid help keep the formula stable and fresh; potassium sorbate is a preservative that keeps it safe over time. Nothing mysterious.

Patch-test first — always. Even a simple, gentle formula deserves a patch test if your skin is reactive. Apply a small amount to your inner forearm, wait 24 hours, and see how your skin responds before using it on your face.

Go slow. Introduce aloe on its own for a few days before layering it with other actives. That way, if your skin has any opinion about it, you'll know exactly what's talking.

Sensitive skin rewards simplicity. The fewer variables in a product, the easier it is to trust — which is the whole philosophy behind a five-ingredient gel.
